Destiny City Zine Symposium is a free seasonal event in Tacoma where Destiny City Comics and King’s Books offer space to artists to sell their wares to art lovers and hopeless comic-collecting addicts. Hang out with someone that made a comic you’ve never heard of! Make someone’s day by purchasing their wares with cash.

Harry Potter Midnight Release Block Party events at Destiny City Comics

King’s Books is having a special midnight release of the new Harry Potter book, eight years since the last! Join us for a special event ignited by our good neighbor and check out comics and graphic novels inspired by Harry Potter like Gotham Academy, Unwritten, and Bird Witch.

7pm-8pm Improv

Half hour improv show live with a local performance group Fools Play Improv.

8pm-11pm Vendors

  • Wizard Caricatures by James Stowe, local cartoonist and creator of Sidekick Quests. Get drawn as a member of your favorite house!
  • Take and/or Make Harry Potter Bead Sprites by @the_nerdy_girl_crafter. This local maker will have handcrafted items available as well as a make-your-own bead sprite station.
  • Homemade Harry Potter-inspired goods by Atomic Soap Works. This local soap maker is cooking up unique Harry-Potter themed soap ideas just for this special event.
  • Vending table and Quidditch Race hosted by Crescent Moon Gifts. Enter a special Quidditch race hosted by the unique local 6th Ave gift shop at 8:30. Harry Potter items like the famous Jelly Belly Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans will also be available at their vending table.

Destiny City Comics’ second Tacoma Pride event! Celebrate feminism and queerdom with a festival that welcomes all at your local comic shop! Special queer/feminist graphic novels will be spotlighted with exciting special guests.

Sweetgyrl Designs, local maker and vintage goods seller will have enough unicorns and rainbow stickers to fill your face with Pride!
Madeleine Gasperi, local author, motivational speaker, and outspoken LGBT ally.

  • Tacoma Ghost Tours local ghost experts who offer a variety of spooky tours about town, including one that meets at King’s Books.

  • Space Goat Publishing meet Bellingham-based comic publishing company pros behind Evil Dead 2: Beyond Dead by Dawn, the all-ages Monster Party, Big Game Hunters, and more!

Captain Picard Day Art Show & Festival

Come celebrate the wondrous life of Jean-Luc Picard as we observe International Jean-Luc Picard day! A special art show for the third Thursday of June put on by Destiny City Comics and sinister art rebels the C.L.A.W. (Cartoonist League of Absurd Washingtonians).
Art for sale, contests, local artists to meet and greet, and more. Reception on Thursday the 16th. Judging at 7pm. Awards and prizes! Costumes strongly encouraged!
Show will be up through the end of June.
Do you want to participate in the Captain Picard Art Show & Festival? Artists will receive 65% and Destiny City Comics 35%. The $5 fee helps CLAW to pay for wall hangers and paint and posters!
WHO: Any artist that loves Captain Picard as much as we do.
WHAT: Art that celebrates all things Picard. Must be smaller than 24″ x24″ and is READY TO HANG on wall. Slightly 3D okay but must be light and able to hang on wall. Alternative and out of the box media encouraged.
THE FINE PRINT: $5 Entry Fee for each piece. (cash only) Each artist can submit up to 3 pieces. However, we want to show as many artists off as possible so carefully label EACH piece with your name, phone number, contact email, retail price, and number your entries –with #1 being the one you want to show the most– and we will put as many as we can put up! If we are completely swamped with art and can’t put up all pieces, you will receive your $$ back!
DROP OFF: All pieces need to be dropped off at TINKERTOPIA (1914 Pacific Ave Tacoma, WA 98402) between JUNE 10-15th. Tinkertopia will be open 10-6 Mon-Sat and 12-5 on Sunday.
PLEASE, we beseech you: do NOT drop off work to Destiny City–There is not enough space!
